Enjoyed installing this rebuilt 10′ Elgin #2 Vaneless Windmill near Emden, IL. I built a 40′ wooden tower for it which was later painted white to match the wooden blades. The counter weight is a large, red cast iron chicken. The black cast iron ball (beneath service platform) is weighted and is fundamental part of the governing mechanism. Everything works beautifully. The mill is circa 1885 and has been on the same farm since new!
